I wrote this piece when I was living in London, the information about this foundation still stands, it is an excellent foundation. I will be updating this blog in the near future and you can catch up with what I am using now that I am back here in Spain
In the great city of London, the air is not so great, it is very polluted. Protecting my skin from its detrimental effects which exacerbate the ageing process, requires a good foundation.
Where I lived in Spain, the air was clean, a good sunscreen was the only essential. I would use a tinted moisturiser during the day, saving the foundation for evenings out. Here in London, you need to use a foundation at all times, to protect your skin from the impurities in the air.
Because of my infrequent use, a foundation would last me a long time, so in recent years I wouldn’t use many, Estée Lauder’s Futurist Age resisting foundation was a favourite (now discontinued). I was never looking for a lot of coverage, just something to brighten the skin tone, to cover any blemishes and as a base for other makeup, nothing powdery. Futurist did the job adequately but I wanted a change. I also wanted something that looked great, not too “madeup” if I was going to wear it every day. I saw an ad …as you do, for YSL Teint Éclat, which appeared to offer the radiant look I was after-
“A bold, unique formula to target shadowy areas and define contours. A magic light infused within a weightless fluid. A texture that has no mask-like effect. A formula free of opaque powders that evens the complexion and erases imperfections, enhancing the face’s natural features.”
I had used Touche Éclat as a highlighter for years and liked the subtle light reflecting effect it gave.
I was not disappointed, this foundation is great. The shade I use is B40, it matches my skin perfectly, evens out the skin tone and has all the light reflecting properties it claims to. I prefer getting the “glow” from my foundation base and adding matte products on top, otherwise it all gets too shimmery- not flattering
My skin is normal/dry, with a tendency for dehydration, I have found some foundations are sucked into the skin, leaving a patchy residue, not this one. Teint Éclat stays put, with or without a primer, and at the end of the day the skin still has that dewy look, which is complimentary. It is easily applied, I use my fingers, it blends well, and I have never had any conflict with other products that I have used under it “balling up”. It does offer some SPF, but you will still need to use sunscreen underneath.
If you have not tried it I recommend it, although if your skin is oily, you may find this has a little too much “slip”. It has a good range of shades.
Some of you may prefer not to use “high end” products and YSL does fall into that category. It comes in a pump dispenser and there is no waste. I use it once a day, my bottle has just finished after two years, the consistency, colour and smell (it does have a light fragrance) are the same. I will be re-purchasing.
Certainly many products are overpriced with little value, just huge amounts of useless luxury packaging promoting the brand. There are however some that are worth it, so please don’t baulk at the price, it is worth every penny.
If you go to your local YSL counter, you should be able to get a sample to try at home, let me know what you think.
